Parental Block Makes Online Casino Ban Illegal

Published on: February 6, 2009

The company Trend Micro has found a way to make the UIGEA unnecessary and even more dysfunctional than it already is.  What is their secret?  Its a little computer program and process that allows parents to protect their children from logging onto online casino sites and poker rooms and getting into financial trouble.  By supplying this product to consumers, Trend Micro could actually be making banning these sites illegal.

The biggest push to ban online gambling websites and to keep children protected from exposure to these online casinos is coming from the politicians and evangelists around the United States.  Trend Micro is an Internet security company and has the expertise to develop a program to do just that without banning the legal adults who make the conscious decision to play.  The product that Trend Micro has developed has a screening package that allows parents to prevent their children from logging onto - accidentally or on purpose - online casinos and poker rooms.

General counsel for Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association (IMEGA) Ed Leyden stated that, "Statutes must be constructed in the narrowest way, to observe the rule of lenity."  What this means is that if there is a way to protect children from logging onto online casinos and poker rooms using a less intrusive manner than outright ban, then that method is to be used first.  Trend Micro has successfully done that, and it will keep people like Spencer Bachus from looking at the internet hooked up to a child's bedroom computer as instant access to a casino and 'a casino in every child's bedroom'.  If the parents have the tools to lock out these types of sites, then they should be utilized at all costs.

The filter that blocks out the online casinos and poker rooms comes standard in Trend Micro Internet Security's Parental Control package.  This all in one security package also protects the computer system from viruses, malware, adware, and spyware.  Parents are able to set the program up to block sites that fall under pre-set categories or customize it to just block online gambling websites.  This tool is also handy to take temptation out of the path of a problem gambler who used the computer to get their betting fix.

According to one of Trend Micro's spokerpersons, "Trend Micro enjoys the credit of being the only company which offers this Internet Security Software that provides end-to-end, detailed and intuitive advanced parental control."
