Online Gambling Industry Predicted to Quadruple by the Year 2020

Published on: May 12, 2007

Last month, an Irish research and market intelligemce company, ireach released a report detailing how they believe that the already massive online gambling industry will likely quadruple by the year 2020.

The report estimates that there are currently over 40 million people who have been attracted to online gambling though out the world with 4 million in the UK alone.  The number is expected to grow exponentially and forecasts show that the market looks set to surpass €13 billion in the year 2010.

The always expanding creations of new technologies and the increase in the access of the internet to people the world over are two of the big reasons for the increase.  For example, the existence of broadband internet, WAP technologies and Interactive Television make internet use more accessible to more generations of consumers.

The passing of the Gambling Act in 2005 in the UK, which allows companies to set up licensed gambling sites has also lead the way to an increase on online gambling activities, allowing, for example, popular bookmakers like William Hill and Ladbrookes, to nter the online market.
