Online Casinos Can Vanish Quickly

The online world is highly competitive when it comes to the available places for online casinos. An online casino can be there one day and gone the next. British Columbia found out how hard it is to run an online gambling establishment when a small issue with security caused them to shut down less than three hours after they launched the site. Though they survived enough to launch again there is one online casino that did not survive.

Sega is a name recognised in the gaming industry for their 1980s to present video games. Their gaming machines have not been as popular as Nintendo or PlayStation, which is why the games are more important to their survival. Earlier this year it was announced that Sega would break out into the online casino world. They called it Sega Casino. The brand thought their recognition would be enough to draw in players, especially when they were preparing launches of slots and other games based on their most popular Sega characters.

They also felt they could provide a new gaming place for the public that would demand attention. However, it was not to be. They have ceased to exist due to a low demand that pretty much dried up after the initial launch. With no profits, the company decided they had to close down. What is worse is the lack of preparation for such closure. They did not warn any of their existing players of the ceasing of operations. Instead as one once wrote they “went quietly into the night”. They did however, send out a small message to players to tell them any funds not withdrawn would be deposited in their accounts by the 15th of September.

Most news places for online casinos are only now learning about the closure, since it was kept very quiet. One affiliate spokesperson stated the reason for the closure had a lot to do with restrictions being placed on online casinos. Sega could not break into enough markets to keep open, especially with the competition in established markets. Sega had their licence through Alderney Gambling Control Commission. They spent quite a bit to create an online presence that has now gone to waste. Playtech was their casino software partner, which has also meant a small loss for this top company. Many are wondering how such a quick closure could happen because there was no real warning.
