Leadership Seminar for Online Casinos

Published on: May 18, 2010

GTech G2 had a Leadership Seminar this past week.  The idea behind the seminar is to bring together legal and online casino executives.  Since the United Kingdom is looking to change their legal laws to help better online casinos for players it seems important for them to discuss what changes could occur.  Discussions are going to be based mostly on the executive’s recommendations to help better the existing laws.

Many of the laws which exist right now were part of Remote Gaming Review which was commissioned by the United Kingdom government.  After the discussions over this past week many of those who participated from various jurisdictions went back to their respective places.  The idea is for them to consider the various changes discussed and look at the concerns and conditions Europe and the United Kingdom have.

Peter Wilson was a moderator at the Leadership Seminar.  He commented on the debate stating that it was well thought out and should be quite helpful.  There were certainly different ideas at the summit.  Some individuals have their own thoughts on how things should be changed and the other part thinks a different way.  Yet, despite the differences found at the summit it was possible to find common ground.

The panel helped to listen to the various individuals speaking and make sure that everything was held appropriately.  Several people including CEO from Virgin Games and the Director of Sports and Leisure attended offering their own ideas.  The reforms are going to start out in the United Kingdom.  It will still be based on online casino operators’ goodwill, but there will be a necessary amount of regulatory requirements.

The United States was mentioned as one area that would be focused on.  They want to get the United States into a position to open up gambling, especially if they can find regulation the US would be willing to open their doors for.  For the moment taxation is being given quite a bit of consideration, but on the other hand that is one thing that needs to be lessened if the United Kingdom wants to bring in more online casino revenue.  The trouble now is that the UK began taxing online casinos heavily, so the casinos left the country for lesser regulated states.  This first talk is not going to be the last.  Instead, another meeting is set for June 18, 2010.  With the information found this past week and having time to think hopefully something will change for the better regulation wise.
