Fixing Sports Betting at Online Casinos

Published on: January 2, 2010

It seems that no matter where an online casino is located there are problems with sports betting.  In recent years the United Kingdom has been trying harder to ensure their games are clean, especially with the tennis issues over a year ago in Europe.  Some even worried that the UK online casinos moving off shore would open the sports games back up to being mishandled.

Now China is looking to correct their sports betting issues, so that online casinos can feel safe along with their players.  The trouble is not within the online casinos, but the games themselves.  China is working to correct any match fixing and corruption within football at the moment.  In fact these corrections have lead to 20 arrests of sports officials.  Shockingly one of the arrests made was the president and two coaches of a team that is owned by Sheffield United.

The team is a Hong Kong relation to the UK club.  There were also men involved in the sports fixing from the Yorkshire Club; at least, they are presumed to be involved.  Bribing referees and using club funds for private business are just a few of the issues surrounding these clubs.

This move by China has exposed a huge underbelly of scandal.  The United Kingdom officials and English Championship Club are separate from the Chinese, but they may be reconsidering the investment they have made.  They invested in the club in 2006 becoming the first to be involved in a foreign club.  The president of the Chinese Club went to Sheffield University, and has fixed matches.

His schooling and command of English helped get the investment from the UK.  Too bad it turns out the president was not above board.  While the United Kingdom is in no way involved, it does cast a bad light on sports betting in the UK.  Players should not worry though.  Despite the move of online casinos offshore for better taxes, they are still lending a helping hand to keep sports clean and therefore the betting they are involved in.  For now it looks like players will want to stick within their country for football and other sports related bets, at least until other countries like China can fix their issues with local criminals.  It is also best for UK players to stick with online casinos they know have a good reputation for any sports betting or gambling, and steer clear of those that are unknown.
