Microgaming Caribbean Draw Poker

Draw poker games are very rare at online casinos and the reason is that draw poker games are very rare in live poker tables as well. A majority of the cash poker games played today are stud poker games like Texas Hold’em. In these games the players are dealt only a few of the cards up front. There are intermediate betting rounds followed by more cards being dealt. Therefore all online gaming software providers offer stud poker based games like Caribbean Stud Poker and Texas Hold’em Poker.

Microgaming is one of the few gaming software providers that offer a draw poker based game at its online casinos. It is worth pointing out that the first poker variants were draw poker games. Stud poker games became popular during the American Civil War and have driven draw poker games away.

The Microgaming draw poker game is called Caribbean Draw Poker. It is played with a single standard deck. The game begins with the player placing the ante bet. Then he clicks on the Deal button and receives five cards face up. The dealer is dealt one card face up and four cards face down. After seeing his cards the player can make one of the following three moves. If he is completely satisfied with the dealt hand he should click the Stand button. A play bet equal to double the ante bet is automatically placed and the dealer’s full hand is revealed. In the second move the player can select up to two cards for replacement by clicking on them. The player should then click the Draw button to replace the selected cards with new ones. The play bet as indicated above is simultaneously placed and the dealer’s hand revealed.  If the player feels that his hand is totally useless he should click the Fold button. The player will immediately lose the ante bet and the game will end.

The payout rules for Microgaming Caribbean Draw Poker are as follows. If the player has the lower ranking hand then he loses both the ante and play bets. If the player’s hand is higher ranked, then the payout depends on whether the dealer has qualified or not. The dealer requires a pair of eights or better to qualify. If the dealer does not qualify then the ante bet pays even money and the play bet pushes. If the player’s hand is higher ranked and the dealer qualifies then the ante bet pays even money and the play bet pays as per a payout table.

At the start of the game the player can place a side bet if he so desires. This side bet pays out according to another payout table and is based on the hand dealt before drawing. The side bet table starts with a 4 to 1 payout for a two pair and goes to a 2,500 to 1 payout for a straight flush with the progressive jackpot for a royal flush.

Realtime Gaming is another software provider that offers Caribbean Draw Poker. The main game is identical, but the payout table for the side bet is slightly different. Microgaming Caribbean Draw Poker can be played at online casinos like Royal Vegas, Spin Palace and All Jackpots. Realtime Gaming Caribbean Draw Poker can be played at Cherry Red and Club World.
