American Online Casino Games

Casino games evolved differently in America from their European counterparts. When land casinos were the only option players had to wager on what was offered in their continent. But it is different for online casinos. Players can play which game they want from wherever in the world they are. Therefore it makes sense for them to understand how the typically American games stand in the larger spectrum of online casino games.

The first game is roulette, where American Roulette and European Roulette are distinctly known online roulette variants. The game of roulette originated with 0 and 00 on the wheel in Europe and that is how it was taken to the United States. Competition among the European land casinos forced the elimination of the 00 from the wheel. The environment in America was less competitive and the 00 stayed. Today the online roulette variant with only 0 is therefore referred to European Roulette and the online roulette variant with both 0 and 00 is referred to as American Roulette. It is common sense that American Roulette is more disadvantageous to the player because he loses his bets on 2 numbers out of 38 as compared to 1 number out of 37 in European Roulette. Converting to figures, American Roulette has a house edge of 5.26%, whereas European Roulette has a house edge of 2.70%. There is no reason for any player, American or not, to wager on American Roulette.

Blackjack is also played differently in European and American land casinos. The European variant is known as European Blackjack at online casinos, but the American version is not known as American Blackjack. The reason for this is blackjack is played slightly differently at the land casinos of the Strip in Las Vegas and of Atlantic City. Therefore the American online blackjack variants are known as Vegas Strip Blackjack and Atlantic City Blackjack. What is common to the American variants and which is different from European Blackjack is the treatment of the hole card. In the American online blackjack variants the dealer deals his second card face down and checks for blackjack if the face up card is ten value card or ace before the player makes any move. If the dealer does have a blackjack then the game ends and the players are saved from placing additional wagers on doubling down and splitting. In European Blackjack the dealer does not check for blackjack upfront. The hole card is exposed only after the player has made his moves. Therefore if the player splits or doubles and then it is learnt that the dealer has a blackjack he loses the additional wagers, which he would not have lost in the American variants. Hence in the American variants the player has an advantage. The advantage is marginal at 0.1% and not material in game selection for most players.

The third conflicting games are All American video poker versus Jacks or Better video poker. This is not an American versus European conflict. Both online video poker variants have identical hand rankings in the payout table, only the payouts are different for some of the hand rankings. Some of the less frequently occurring hand rankings like straight flush pay out much more in All American video poker, whereas some of the very frequently occurring hand rankings pay marginally less in Jacks or Better. The average payout ratios are equated, but All American is a more volatile game suited for risk taking players.
