Malta The New Online Gambling Haven

Published on: August 30, 2007

With the new UK Gambling Act taking effect September 1st, the trend in the online

gambling world seems to be heading toward Malta.  Apparently around 27 online gaming companies are set to relocate their licensing to the small European Island.

The major reason for the moves are because of a clause in the Act that will only allow online gambling firms that are located in the EEA (European Economic Area) to advertise their product and services via television, radio, print and other ad mediums throughout the UK.  And Malta is a part of the EEA.

"Malta's becoming the natural hub of online gaming" stated Mario Galea, to Malta’s The Times newspaper, of the Lotteries Gaming Authority.

There are currently 84 iGaming operations licensed out of Malta with more on the way.  Some of theses World’s top casino, poker and sportsbook brands that are heading to Malta within the next little while will include William Hill, Littlewoods, Olayboy Casino, Virgin Games and Intercasino.
