World Cup Could Be Largest Online Casino Event

The World Cup is always a big deal for soccer fans.  However, 2010’s World Cup is slated to be the largest online casino event.  According to experts they expect over a billion dollars to be spent worldwide on wagers for the World Cup.  Of course, those who wager will not all be using dollars. In fact, Britain is thought to have the biggest draw when it comes to sports betting.  Numerous shops in Britain are already seeing wagers being put down.  Their online counterparts are seeing just as many wagers.  Las Vegas sports book is growing large as well for the World Cup.

The World Cup wagers will come to a close on July 11.  The match is going to be in Johannesburg.  The World Cup is always a huge sports betting event.  It just seems that a number of people worldwide and especially in Europe have decided to throw in their money this year.  After the hard times of the last couple of years it makes sense that many would hope that a turnaround is coming.  Many also feel that the way to get in on this luck is to bet in online casinos.  It doesn’t necessarily have to be sports betting with the World Cup.  Some players are going back to their favourite games like the slots or poker.

In the UK there is an estimate of 1 to 3 billion pounds that will be entered into the World Cup sports betting holdings.  Some experts expect some illegal wagering will be going on, but with the advantages of online casinos they hope this type of betting will be kept to a minimum.  Graham Sharpe is part of William Hill.  He spoke to the media this week regarding the online sports betting and what they believe will happen.  Sharpe stated that sports betting tends to increase every four years.  This is why he thinks it will be at least a billion for the World Cup in the UK this year.

What’s even more interesting about the current sports betting on the World Cup is that it has surpassed other options.  For example the Grand National sees as much as 300 million pounds and the four day Cheltenham festival 600 million pounds.  Nothing is comparing to the bets already placed and those that are expected to come in before the World Cup is over.
