No More Gambling for Second Life Residents

The online community known as 'Second Life', a virtual world where "residents" can meet one another, interact amongst each other and basically take part in different types of activities, has recently banned all services related to gambling.  

"Because there are a variety of conflicting gambling regulations around the world we have chosen to restrict gambling in Second Life," explained a spokesperson from Linden Labs, the creators of the virtual community.  

In the spring, the company, who hosts over 8 million residents on their virtual world, asked the FBI to look into their online gambling aspect of the community and to give them their opinions and guidance on whether or not they should allow these activities to continue.  By the recent actions taken by Linden Labs, it seems as though the FBI's feedback was unenthusiastic regarding this controversial subject.  

According to an entry by Linden Labs on their blog, Second Lifer's need to be aware that they are going take this gambling ban very seriously and violators will be reprimanded.  Accounts may be suspended or terminated without refund, gambling related objects will be removed from the Second Life environment or user information and details could be reported to authorities.  

No matter which part of the world Second Life residents live in the real life, the following is Second Life's new policy regarding this issue.

It is a violation of Second Life's policy if 'Residents' are to wager on games (operated by Linden Labs servers) that, firstly rely on chance or random number generation to determine a winner or rely on the outcome of a real-life organized sporting event and secondly, provide a payout in any real world currency, Linden Dollars or things of value.
