Gambling Commercials to Hit UK Television Sets in a Few Short Days

August 28, 2007

September 1st is only a few short days away, which means for many "White List" gambling companies in the UK, that they are getting ready to see their ads played across televisions around the country.  This achievement, for land based and online gambling companies, is due to the recent passing of the Gambling Act 2005, which, among a number of other updates, will now allow casino, poker, bingo and sportsbook operators to tempt players to their sites and establishments via television commercials campaigns.

The commercials put forth by the gambling companies wil not only be regulated under the Advertising Standards Authority, but also by a code of practice put in place by the gambling operators themselves.  This code was developed as an effort to prove to officials that they will act responsibly under the new, more relaxed laws regarding gambling activities in the UK.

UK residents can expect to see tv ads airing from top online casino brands such as Party Poker, Betfair, Ladbrokes and Full Tilt.

"We are going to advertise on TV but as to when and what, we not disclosing. I think that people will start straight away. I think you will probably see a slow build-up, and then you have got big events like the Rugby World Cup coming up which is where you will probably see a peak in advertising." Declared John Shepard, Director of Corporate Communications for PartyGaming.

And some reports show that the gambling companies won’t be the only ones to prosper from the new advertising law.  Apparently, with the added ad revenue from the gambling companies, television advertising revenue is expected to increase by 9 percent in the month of September, compared to Augusts numbers.  And according to a broadcasting source, this trend could possibly to continue in the coming months.

"We have had a steady flow of online gaming and poker companies for September," said the source. "We expect this might open the floodgates for traditional bookies to come from October onwards."
