Optimum Surrender Strategy Explained

With so many variations of blackjack available at online casinos, players will have to take some time to find the games they enjoy. Those that like to have a surrender option will find some great games and when playing, it is essential for players to know exactly how the surrender strategy works. It is important to use this strategy correctly in order to be successful at blackjack games that offer a surrender option. This option will work a bit differently in American blackjack games and European games. With American blackjack, the dealer will receive a hole card. If this is a 10 or Ace, the dealer will then check for blackjack. If there is a blackjack, players will lose and not have the surrender option. In any other case, players can surrender and get half of their wager back, and this is called a late surrender. With European blackjack, the hole card is not dealt, so dealers never check for blackjack. This allows players to use the surrender option right away, referred to as early surrender.

When using a surrender option, players need to know three important factors that will determine whether he option should even be used. Should the dealer’s card be anything but 9, 10 or Ace, players should play on. If the card is one of these, they then need to consider the next factor. Here, consider the rule for standing. If dealers are required to stand on soft 17 hands and there is a 10 card, surrender only if the hand held is 15 or 16. If the dealer has a 9 or Ace, surrender when the hand is only 16.

Some blackjack games require the dealer to hit when there is a soft 17. When this is the case, the dealer has a strong position and players will find they have to surrender frequently. Using optimum strategy for surrendering, only surrender if the dealer has an Ace and players hold a hand of 15, 16 or 17. Should the dealer have a 10 or face card, surrender only with 15 or 16 hands. With a dealer 9, surrender with a 16 hand.

By following these strategies, players will successfully be able to use the surrender option to their benefit when playing online blackjack for real money.
